Concrete for low temperatures: a new ice rink in Turin

Elle&P recently completed a project at the PalaTazzoli in Turin: the construction of the ice rink floor. This undertaking required the use of a special low-temperature concrete, which was poured in a single pour over an area of approximately 2500 square metres, without the use of contraction joints.

The phase following the casting was characterised by a slow and controlled curing period. The use of cellophane layers and anti-evaporation products ensured optimal conditions for the concrete to cure, creating a resistant structure suitable for extreme conditions.

The concrete used in this project was selected for its resistance properties at low temperatures. Indeed, temperatures close to zero can compromise the mechanical performance of concrete, altering its strength and durability. To overcome this challenge, specific additives were used to preserve the material’s characteristics even in difficult climatic conditions.

The success of this project shows how innovation and technology can be applied effectively in the construction sector. Thanks to the use of a special low-temperature concrete and Elle&P’s expertise, an ice rink was created that meets compliance standards.
